Avoid Sciatica Surgery With Chiropractic Treatment in Midland, Odessa

Permian Basin Accident & Injury Centers works with countless sciatica patients here in our Midland, Odessa office, and several of these men and women were nervous that they might require surgery to treat their pain. The most recent research shows that many people don't require surgery for this common problem, and that chiropractic treatment is more beneficial at resolving sciatic nerve problems.

A popular surgery for sciatica is microdiscectomy, and in a 2010 study, physicians examined 80 individuals with sciatica who were referred for this procedure.

Forty patients were then randomly sorted into one of two groups. The first group received surgical microdiscectomy and the second group received chiropractic therapy.

Both groups got better; however, no obvious difference in results was recorded one year post-treatment between either group. Additionally, around sixty percent of the participating subjects who could not find assistance from any other treatment approach "benefited from spinal manipulation to the same degree as if they underwent surgical intervention."

In other words, chiropractic care delivered the same positive benefits as surgery without having to undergo the higher amounts of surgery-based pain or suffer through extended recovery times often associated with that type of treatment choice. Additionally, you also don't run the risks affiliated with surgical microdiscectomy, which includes nerve root damage, bowel or bladder incontinence, bleeding, or infection.
